Solar Energy 101: An Introduction To Solar Power

May 24th, 2011 by admin

Solar power is the conversion of solar energy to a form usable by human beings. The sun radiates an immense amount of energy every second. The incoming energy powers the wind, the waves, the plants and now technology. Solar power is the process of converting this energy into other usable forms. There are two primary ways of converting solar power; cells and concentrators.

The most common technology for solar power relies on the use of silicon solar cells. These cells convert sunlight into electricity and are usually placed together in panels for efficient use.This/tag helps explain it more. You can find solar panels in many locations globally. The other method is the use of solar concentrators which a fluid to convert solar energy into either heat or power. The most common version of the concentrator is used in items such as water heaters and sterilization. The other method of solar concentrator uses the energy directed by mirror to power engines through the creation of steam. The steam produced is used to power standard generators.

An important thing to remember is that the sun doesn’t always shine. Almost every solar system you find will have a battery backup which provides a source of constant power
